DNA Guide Service
DNA GUIDE SERVICE provides an all around premium service and experience for both duck hunting and relaxing retreats along big stone lake, located three hours west of the metro area. During your stay you will enjoy the comforts of the Mallard Point Lodge and all that Big Stone lake has to offer. Darren, who has hunted waterfowl in western Minnesota for more than 40 years and guided for nearly 30, will bring you to the perfect hunting locations on privately owned/managed land, sloughs and lakes.
THE SKINNY:
Having hunted with multiple guides in the Minnesota/Dakota areas over the past few years we are most interested in seeing what kind of birds the properties we hunt will hold. More than anything, we just want to have a chance to shoot birds. We never expect that we will be in a position to shoot limits in an hour, but we want a chance to have a great day. At DNA, they have multiple different properties that harbor different types of birds all throughout the year. Enjoy walking to the blind or a boat ride to your seat. Don’t worry about calling or retrieving your birds as it’s all taken care of for you. Many of us have spent nights in crappy hotel rooms to hunt with a guide.
At DNA, you can enjoy the beautiful lodge with all the comforts of home. Darren and Amy have truly built a comfortable haven for ducks and people alike.
EXPECTATIONS:
I think we all have the stories of hunting with a guide and not knowing what to expect. Maybe you haven’t hunted with an actual guide but I’m sure you’ve hunted with someone you didn’t know all too well at some point. You don’t know what to expect. Will you gel with that person? Will you become friends that hunt together for decades? Or, will you leave that day in the rear view, with plans to never chase birds with that person again? It all comes back to experience. We all just want to have a great experience no matter what the hunt turns out like.
Some of our favorite memories as a crew at Midwest Flyways are times when the birds didn’t work, the weather wouldn’t cooperate and our crew was focused only on bullshitting, sharing stories, and having a great time one way or another.
It’s the people we meet along the way that we can share our lives and our passions with, that make it all worth it. When we packed our bags for DNA Guide Service, we had heard some stories about what Darren was all about. We knew that we shared a passion for birds and we hoped that it would spark the beginning to a great relationship. From the first interaction, we weren’t disappointed.
EXPERIENCE:
I can’t say I know a lot of people yet in this world, who would give the shirt off their back for someone else if they needed it. Today, much of society is all about what’s best for themselves and how they can continue to gain. Every once-in-a-while, I meet someone that takes me by surprise. The best way I can describe their demeanor would be GENUINE. From the moment you talk to them, listen to them, laugh with them, it all feels so natural and real. It’s truly the most captivating personality trait that someone can possess. Being genuine is a natural thing for those who truly bring you in. It’s a trait that I focus on possessing more than any other characteristic. People who live this way don’t just hear what you’re saying and wait for their chance to respond. They take in every single word and deposit your thoughts into their mental bank for further deconstruction. They speak only with pure intentions whether the topic is positive or negative. This characteristic has nothing to do with how much they know or what they’ve learned. It’s simply a way of life that they choose or naturally live by. Darren and Amy Lang are some of the most genuine people I have been fortunate enough to meet. At DNA we didn’t just shoot ducks.
We didn’t just show up and shoot birds, we experienced the beauty in hunting at it’s core.
We had great conversation while the birds took a rest. We didn’t just talk about little things, we had meaningful conversations that evoked real thoughts and feelings. We didn’t just show up and shoot birds, we experienced the beauty in hunting at it’s core. We created friendships and relationships that didn’t end when we left. DNA is the most authentic hunting experience that we have had with a guide thus far. Because DNA captured the true, honest feelings of what it means to us to hunt birds together. The key word there, is TOGETHER.
IT’S IN OUR DNA:
When we started Midwest Flyways we really set forth this idea that we wouldn’t be out to portray a million dying birds as our motive. Anyone who is dedicated to hunting will tell you that looking back on their hunting career, they don’t first think of the birds that they shot. They don’t remember every day limits were had. What they will tell you, is how many friends they made. They’ll tell you about the day their buddy fell out of the boat and they had to leave early. They’ll tell you about walking 3 miles in the mud with their best friend and not shooting a single bird.
The thing is, we live to create and foster relationships with other people. That’s what Darren and Amy Lang have recognized and that’s what DNA Guide Service provides. You will remember the weekends hunting at DNA. You’ll remember the stories and the conversations with good friends at the lodge. You’ll know how much love was reciprocated at DNA.
After all, that’s why we all do this, anyway.
